SA State Wavesailing Series - Round 2

Saturday was a good day and plenty of sailors turned out to take part in the series, see link for further photos of the event and pro sailors, no photos of mere mortals like me unfortunately. Good sailors doing backies, table tops, forwards, 360 off the lips, wymaru's. Wind was very slightly cross off and picking up all morning, so much so that most were out on 4.7 by midday. Good swell and well formed waves and spacing, making for great conditions. sessions on the water were 20mins total in which time you were judged on best jump (1 only) and best waves (2 best).

Sailed 90 litre and 5.3 and was overpowered on the outside but inside slightly less, which favoured more control on the waves. I missed the first round of the wave series as i wasn't registered/member of WSA at the time. There were classes for entering, Pros, Masters, Womens and Weekend Warriors. I was placed in Weekend Warriors.

Managed to hold my own and came first in my class which was judged on best jump (1) and best waves (2). Great craic and really friendly locals. Spent first 10 mins trying to catch a wave and then decided to move further down the wave from Seaford to the Bowl which allowed a better formed and suitably directioned wave.

Managed to sail there again today but conditions were trickier, 2.5-3m waves at times and large swell, 4.2 and 81litre triwave. Best directions are Northerly for the Seaford and other reefs (Also sailed Anzacs before now and U Turns which has a cupping wave so two directional depending where you are. These are all very close to each other and located in what is termed the MidCoast, sailing for the last wave sailing round was on the south coast which is southern ocean facing and gets huge swells and waves (forecast 6-9ft tomorrow on the beach) and worked best in WNW or NW. My local beach is Seacliff about 3 mins away (home of Ben Severne i'm told), this is best in SW with great wrapping swells but can work in a W too but not as good. Prevailing winds for the Adelaide area are N, SW.
