Windsurfing days are over

Unread postby dave d » Sun May 26, 2019 9:32 am

Broke my neck windsurfing on Wednesday so I'm calling it a day at age 66. I'm in a neck brace for 6 to 8 weeks, hopefully no surgery to come. ... I am eternally grateful to John whose surname I don't know for saving my life ( yes it was as bad as that ), without him I would have drowned, and for the prompt response of the safety boat crew at Derwent

I'll be selling / giving away my gear when I'm able ... I'll keep you posted

It will be a pity not to be greeted by your friendly smile at the club on Wednesday afternoons Dave. Pop up to see us when you are better so I can hear the full gory details.

Dave. I am really sorry to hear this, I enjoyed very much the times I got to buddy sail with you, always very positive and eager to get out on the water. It sounds like it was a really close run thing for you and I'm sure you'll make the most of your reprieve, escape, whatever. Really puts my little ankle problem into context.
All the very best. Stuart

Hi guys ... just a note of thanks for your comments following my broken neck while windsurfing ... also a plea ... I was very lucky to survive, I kept my calm and my wetsuit kept me just afloat till John Tunbull arrived to help me onto his board and subsequent rescue by the Derwent safety boat crew.

My plea is please wear a life jacket when windsurfing it can save your life.
